Honor A Woman's Heart This Mother's Day



As Mother's Day is quickly approaching, we try to think of the perfect gift to show the ladies in our lives that we love and cherish them. Rather than flowers or a fancy dinner, show your love to mom by helping to take care of her heart.

  • Encourage mom to get screened for heart disease.  Getting screened is one of the most important steps she can take to manage her heart health.  A few simple, quick tests can determine if any conditions exist that may raise her risk of heart disease. 
  • Allow mom to get a good night's rest by sleeping late.  Sleep is important for overall health as it helps to improve metabolism, ward off illness, reduce stress hormone levels, improves mood and energy levels.
  • Cook a heart-healthy brunch for her special day.  Serve Whole-Grain Waffles with Cherry Sauce and a Citrus Berry Smoothie to mom in bed, of course!  She'll have the energy she needs from servings of whole grains, protein and fruit to really enjoy her day.
  • Get outside and enjoy some physical activity.  Keeping fit is great for the mind and body, also it's a great way to connect with family. Go outside and do some gardening, enjoy a bike ride, or take a long walk together.
  • Have kids share our Heart-Health Fact Sheets with mom by slipping them inside her Mother's Day card.  What a beautiful way to show you care!
  • Consider making a donation in your mother's name and sponsor a screening for a woman in need.  With only a few clicks, you have the power to save a woman's life from heart disease, the number one cause of death.         Y

A special Mother's Day doesn't have to be about expensive presents.  The best gift you can give someone is the creation of special memories.  Enjoying a day of healthy foods and activities will go a long way in making someone feel special and loved.
