Many cities are now banning trans fats with impressive results. In New York City, the first city to ban the harmful fats most commonly used to cook French fries and baked goods, trans fat use was cut back from 50 to 2 percent. Reducing the amount of this fat in your diet is important, as even a 2 percent increase in trans fats in your diet can raise your risk for a heart attack by as much as 23 percent.
