Sister to Sister's 4th annual free Women's Heart Health Fair in Atlanta was held on February 7, 2009 at Americas-Mart-Atlanta. Over 1,925 women turned out to get heart smart with lifestyle presentations, cutting-edge information on medical issues, and complimentary heart-health screenings.

Atlanta 2009 Community Council

Sister to Sister's Community Council is a made up of a group of select women from the corporate, government and non-profit worlds who come together to help plan the National Women's Healthy Heart Campaign.  These local leaders pass on our heart-health message to the women they influence in their communities.  They are aware of how critical it is to promote awareness of heart disease among women, and understand the need to turn knowledge into action.

Our Community Council members assist the Campaign with program planning, outreach, promotion and sponsorship sales.  We truly appreciate their efforts in helping to save the lives of women in the Atlanta area.

Dr. Gina Lundberg

Gina Price Lundberg, MD FACC is the President of the Center for Preventive Cardiovascular Care, PC.  She is the founder and Director of the St. Joseph's Hospital of Atlanta's Heart Center for Women.  She founded and directed The Heart and Health Center for Women at Northside Hospital in 2001.  She also founded and directed The Women's Heart Center, the first women's cardiac prevention program in Georgia, in 1998.  Dr. Lundberg has been a prized contributor for the past five years and is the Chair of the Atlanta Community Council. 

Nancy Tkaczuk, RN

Nancy A. Tkaczuk, RN has been the Director of Cardiovascular Services at Northside Hospital since 1985. Ms. Tkaczuk was the Administrative Director for the Heart Health Center for Women at Northside Hospital.  The center specialized in diagnostic testing, risk evaluation, and education for women at increased risk for heart disease.  Ms. Tkaczuk was the direct contact for Northside Hospital, Atlanta's hospital partner for 2008-09.

Dr. Dee Baldwin

Dr. Dee Baldwin, a champion of women's health for more than several decades, is the former Executive Director of Georgia's Office of Women's Health.  Appointed by Governor Barnes in 2000, her selection to this role was due to her many contributions to women's health and minority health through community-based projects. She has received many awards in appreciation of her contributions to women's health, and was hailed as a shining star for her advancement of women's health by the Atlanta Women's Foundation.  She assisted the campaign by coordinating volunteers through Georgia State University's School of Nursing and she also served as this year's co-host.

 

Netty Jackson, The American Heart Association's Director of Cultural Initiatives, is also a returning volunteer and Chair of the Community Outreach Committee.  Her Cultural Initiatives relationships helped to bring members of the church and other social organizations to the fair.

Candice Jett is the Assistant to the Regional Women's Health Coordinator at the Office on Women's Health.  The OWH was Atlatna's public health partner for the past two years.  She was a great asset in assisting with community outreach efforts. 

Diane Larche

Diane Larché is the President and CEO of Larché Communications and member of the National Coalition of 100 Black Women.  She Co-Chaired our Marketing and Public Relations committee and was instrumental in securing many of our public relation opportunities. 

Laura Lyle is the Manager of Corporate and Community Partners at Northside Hospital.  She spearheaded every aspect of the our Screening services with Northside, our official Screening Partner for 2008-09.  Her dedication to providing the free cardiac screenings to the public made this year's fair such a huge success.

Trinita Patton

Trinita Patton is the Business Manager of the Internal Medicine Service hospitalist program at Northside Hospital -Atlanta.  In this position, she coordinates the strategic planning and development of the program, the marketing and community relations, and oversees the day to day operations.  As an avid community outreach organizer and healthcare advocate, she chaired the 2009 Sister to Sister Volunteer Committee.  Her membership in the National Coalition of 100 Black Women helped to secure this year's Volunteer Appreciation sponsorship.

Katherine Watson

Katherine Watson, Northside Hospital's Senior Public Relations Specialist, Co-Chaired our Marketing and Public Relations Committee.  She was instrumental in securing the media opportunities for this year's campaign, and her hard work helped to secure the great turnout at the fair.

Sister to Sister's Community Council is a made up of a group of select women from the corporate, government and non-profit worlds who come together to help plan the National Women's Healthy Heart Campaign.  These female executives are local leaders who pass on our heart-health message to the women they influence in their communities.  They are aware of how critical it is to promote awareness of heart disease among women, and understand the need to turn knowledge into action.

Our Community Council members assist the Campaign with program planning, outreach, promotion and sponsorship sales.  We truly appreciate their efforts in helping to save the lives of women in the Baltimore area.

Lynne Brick

Lynne Brick BSN is the President of Brick Bodies Fitness Services, Inc.  Since inception, Lynne has served as one of Baltimore's Community Council Co-chairs.  Her passion for health and fitness, as well as her unbelievable ability to get people up and moving, has been an immeasurable asset to the local campaign.

Catherine PughSenator Catherine Pugh, Maryland State Senator, has been an ongoing force for the local campaign.  As a dedicated co-chair since inception, Senator Pugh has advocated for Sister to Sister on many levels and raised awareness in the legislature about the importance of fighting heart disease.
Sister Helen Amos, RSM is the Executive Chair of the Board of Trustees at Mercy Medical Center.  With her guidance, the staff from Mercy Medical has given countless hours of screening and counseling assistance to the local campaign.

Betty Clark has been our tireless liaison with the faith-based community.  With her assistance, we have had great success in providing education and outreach to our local churches.

Alice Cole is the Director of Career Development Services at the Mayor's Office of Employment Development.  She has been a greater supporter of our local campaign and mobilized numerous city employees to get heart smart.

Annette Fisher, Director of Marketing and Communications for the Mid-Atlantic Affiliate of the American Heart Association, has been an invaluable partner.  Always willing to support and collaborate, Annette has been a great partner in the fight against heart disease.

Edie House Foster, Director of Information for Baltimore City Public Schools, has been instrumental in helping Sister to Sister reach out to teachers and parents of Baltimore City school children.

Susan Frazier, Community Relations Representative at CareFirst BlueCross BlueShield, has been pivotal in guiding our relationship with CareFirst BlueCross BlueShield.  Together we have been extremely successful in introducing Sister to Sister to our State's legislators and increasing outreach and education beyond the February Health Fair.  

Ruth Fry, Office Manager at Saul Ewing, has been a tireless supporter of Sister to Sister.  Her dedication to heart disease prevention has permeated the local legal community and influenced many law offices to increase their participation in Sister to Sister.

Carmel Gambacorta, Senior Marketing Manager at Harborplace & The Gallery, has been a great friend to Sister to Sister.  Not only has she increased our downtown visibility, but she has been instrumental in helping the local campaign develop new partnerships with other area businesses.

Shelia Goodwin, Director of Special Events at Baltimore Office of Promotion & The Arts, has been a long time supporter of Sister to Sister.  She has never missed an event and is consistently pro-active about sharing information will all city employees on our behalf.

Dr. Jane Kapustin, Program Director, Assistant Dean for Master's Studies at University of Maryland School of Nursing, has been an incredible supporter of Sister to Sister.  Under her guidance, each year over 50 nursing students volunteer their time for screenings at the Women's Heart Health Fair.  The event could not take place without Jane's leadership.

Veris Lee, President of Woman Power, Inc., has been an active part of our grassroots outreach. She has been great at spreading the word about our mission.

Kelly Morin, Director of Marketing and Physician Relations at St. Agnes Hospital, had been a wonderful partner.  With her help, Sister to Sister has been able to extend our outreach to the faith-based community through Sister's Heart and Red Dress Sunday.

Dr. Yvette Rooks, Vice-Chair, Assistant Professor of Family and Community Medicine, University of Maryland School of Medicine is an outspoken supporter and gifted speaker.  She has embraced the local campaign and offered countless hours of her time to educate the public.

Mariellen Synan, Community Outreach Manager at University of Maryland Medical Center has fully committed to Sister to Sister and created a powerful partnership between the organization and the University of Maryland Medical System.  Through her guidance, the Health System is involved in most aspects of the local campaign, allowing us to reach more people and make a broader impact on the community.

Wanda Watts, Special Assistant: Mayor's Office of Community & Human Development, Baltimore City Health Department has guided the relationship between Sister to Sister and the Mayor's Office.  Ms. Watts and Mayor Dixon have been tireless supporters of Sister to Sister and promote our mission and events throughout Baltimore.

Dr. Shannon Winakur, Cardiologist at MidAtlantic Cardiology helps out in so many different ways.  Whether distributing flyers to her patients or speaking to women at the Health Fair, Dr. Winakur goes above and beyond to spread the message about preventing heart disease.

Sister to Sister has been part of your community since 2004. We work year-round to bring heart health resources to the women of Boston.

In addition to our successful Women's Heart Health Fair on May 9, 2009 at the Prudential Center, we have two exciting events coming up in Boston... our "Shop For The Heart" Event and our first annual Sister to Sister Boa Ball.  We hope you can join us!

Join Sister to Sister at the Seaport World Trade Center on Friday, January 22, 2010 at 6:30pm for the opening gala of the Boston Wine Expo.  Celebrity chefs, including The Seaport Hotel Aura's Executive Chef Rachel Klein and Joanne Jewell, Executive Chef of Littlenecks Bar and Grill will provide guests with an evening filled with their best heart-healthy recipes that will be paired with wine.  

All funds raised will support Sister to Sister's mission of providing women with free screenings, education and research to detect and prevent heart disease.

We also held our first-ever spin-athon, which was a huge hit!

Boston 2009 Community Council

Joanne M. Foody

JoAnne M. Foody, MD, is the Chairperson of the Boston Sister to Sister Community Council. Dr. Foody is Associate Professor of Medicine at Harvard Medical School and Director of the Cardiovascular Wellness Center at Brigham and Women's/Faulkner Hospitals in Boston. Dr. Foody has active national and international roles in cardiac disease prevention and rehabilitation with a particular focus on women and heart disease. Her research has focused on identifying and fostering greater use of clinical strategies that prevent adverse cardiovascular events in people with and without coronary artery disease. Dr. Foody is a Fellow of the American College of Cardiology and the American Heart Association.

Caitlin Johnson received a Bachelor of Science in Health Policy with a related concentration in Business Studies from Providence College in 2008. As a research assistant for Dr. Joanne Foody at Brigham and Women's/Faulkner Hospitals in Boston, Caitlin coordinates ongoing studies focused on the treatment and prevention of cardiovascular disease.

Dr. Marian Mehegan is the Regional Coordinator for the US Department of Health and Human Services Office on Women's Health in Region I.  Her areas of interest include working with volunteer interns committed to public service, engaging young minds in science and working on issues to address the health professions workforce shortage and the need to increase diversity in the health professions.

Kate SargentKate Sargent is in her third year of graduate studies at Lesley University, working towards her Master's degree in Counseling Psychology.  She is also a clinical psych intern in the cardiac division of Brigham & Women's Hospital.  At The Brigham, Kate is counseling cardiac patients and helping them learn effective cognitive and behavioral methods of coping with the many emotional challenges surrounding their illness.  Additionally, she is working on a research project designed to foster long-term wellness in cardiac patients. 
Eileen Stuart-Shor

Eileen Stuart-Shor, NP, PhD, FAHA, FAAN is an Assistant Professor in the College of Nursing and Health Sciences at the University of Massachusetts, and a Nurse Practitioner and Research Fellow in the Division of Cardiology, Harvard Medical School at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center.  Dr. Stuart-Shor was the founder and director of the Innovative Cardiovascular Programs in the Division of Behavioral Medicine at the Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center; a Senior Scientist in the Mind/Body Medical Institute; and an Associate in Medicine, Harvard Medical School.  She is the author of many scientific publications and two books, including The Wellness Book.  Dr. Stuart-Shor has a long interest in an integrating mind/body/and spirit in health and healing, with special emphasis on vulnerable populations.

Margaret Carr, Massachusetts Region Executive Director
Margaret is responsible for the daily and strategic operations of Sister to Sister in the Boston area.  Prior to joining Sister to Sister, Ms. Carr held management positions in marketing, development and public relations capacities at BlueCross BlueShield of Massachusetts, Riverside Community Care and Caritas Carney Hospital.  Ms. Carr earned her undergraduate degree at Boston University and a Master's in Business Administration at The Carroll School of Management at Boston College.

Vanessa Atkins

Vanessa Atkins has over 15 yrs of Health-care Finance experience.  She is an advocate for women's health-care because she believes that if each woman reaches out to just one other woman, we can empower all women to take charge of their health and be the best that they can be.  I am honored to be a part of Sister to Sister.

 

Jennifer Brandt

Jen Brandt is a nursing student at University of Illinois-Chicago working on her Masters of Science in Nursing.  She will soon be an Advanced Community Health Nurse and aims to work to raise awareness and improve people's education about chronic diseases like heart health and diabetes.

Lesley Craig is employed by the US Department of Health and Human Services, Office of Women's Health.

Tonie Houke is a volunteer from 2009 Women's Heart Health Fair.

Amanda Johnson is an Independent Fitness Instructor.

Dawn Koselleck works for Pharm D, Abbott Cardiovascular.

Sara Labowitz

 

Sara Labowitz has ten years of healthcare public relations experience and is thrilled to be on the Sister to Sister Community Council.  Ever since donating bone marrow to a 14 year old boy with leukemia, she has wanted to use her skills to help a healthcare related non-profit organization.

 

Keneatha Nason

Keneatha Nason is currently expanding her knowledge in public health and is working on her Masters. "I am excited to join Sister to Sister because I believe a healthy heart is a start for a healthy mind set."

Susan Pachikara

Susan Pachikara is a Chef at the Cardamom Kitchen.

Shilpa Rupani works as a Senior Account Executive and Event Coordinator for the Chicago Sky Women's Basketball Team.

Beth Stremel works for Community Health Charities and is responsible for establishing employee giving campaigns with organizations in Illinois.   In this capacity she has the opportunity to promote the work of 40 area health charities.  She is interested in promoting healthy living, providing education, screening and resources to individuals to improve their health and feels that working with Sister to Sister will be another avenue to pursue this mission.

Steven Tamaroglio serves as our media advisory member on the Sister to Sister Community Council.  He presently works as Marketing and Promotions Director at 93.9 WLIT-FM in Chicago, the flagship adult contemporary station that reaches women all across Chicagoland. 

 

Diana Vetter is a Sales Consultant for Mary Kay Cosmetics.

Chicago Medical Advisory Committee

The Illinois Region Medical Advisory Committee consists of local premiere healthcare professionals who support the mission, vision and goals of Sister to Sister:  The Women's Heart Health Foundation.   Committee members are volunteers who support the organization through their time and talents.  They accept the responsibility of promoting and raising funds for heart screening activities and educational initiatives which are designed to empower women to make lifestyle changes to prevent or minimize their cardiac risk factors.

Medical Advisory Committee Members typically provide medical services to the women's heart health community and passionately embrace the opportunity to contribute to the success of the fundraising and outreach goals of the Sister to Sister team.

Sister to Sister has dedicated professionals in Chicago that work year-round to raise awareness about heart disease in women.

Jacqueline A. Dominguez, Illinois Region Executive Director
Jacqueline brings over 10 years of not-for-profit executive management experience to the Sister to Sister Foundation.   Building on the success of the annual Heart Health Fairs, Jackie is forming community leadership committees to assist in the development of additional women's heart health awareness campaigns, informational lecture series, and fundraising efforts year round.  "Partnerships are the foundation of our success and I encourage you to join us as we empower women to take charge of their cardiac health."

Trainer Michael Gleason

Mike GleasonTrainer Michael Gleason will guide you to the finish line. His endurance sport experience includes:

  • Competitively competed in Triathlons, Marathons and Bike Racing for eight years (completed over 100 events)
  • Finished Four Ironman’s (2.4 mile swim, 112 mile bike, 26.2 mile run) Events-IM Wisconsin 2004 & 2006, IM Florida 2007, Ironman France 2008 and will be competing in Ironman Louisville in August 2009
  • Finished 13 marathons (fastest time 3:16)
  • Finished over 60 triathlons (Half Ironmans, Olympic Distance, Sprint Distance)
  • Qualified at “Elite Level” for Chicago Triathlon 2007 & 2008
  • Extensive experience in track workouts and planning, open water swimming clinics, marathon training, triathlon programs and program development, bike mechanics

Dallas 2009 Community Council

Sister to Sister's Community Council is a made up of a group of select women from the corporate, government and non-profit worlds who come together to help plan the National Women's Healthy Heart Campaign.  These female executives are local leaders who pass on our heart-health message to the women they influence in their communities.  They are aware of how critical it is to promote awareness of heart disease among women, and understand the need to turn knowledge into action.

Our Community Council members assist the Campaign with program planning, outreach, promotion and sponsorship sales.  We truly appreciate their efforts in helping to save the lives of women in the Dallas area.

Diana Aguirre is the Regional Director in Dallas County for Big Brothers Big Sisters. She is also a member of the Greater Dallas Hispanic Chamber of Commerce and the Dallas Women's Foundation.

Jenny Bair, MHE

Jenny Bair, MHE is Founder of Living Well Health & Wellness Center.  She works to improve the lives of her clients as a lifestyle counselor, educator, professional organizer and personal motivator. Jenny has participated as a speaker in many Sister to Sister events as well as coordinates the Living Well De-Stress Area at the annual Dallas Health Fair.

Paula Blackmon

Paula Blackmon is Deputy Chief of Staff for Dallas Mayor Tom Leppert.  She is also involved with Junior League of Dallas and sits on the Local Outreach Committee.  Ms. Blackmon dedicates her time to a variety of charities, including the Promise House, Save Open Space, an environmental group that monitors legislation within the area; Dallas Summit, women leaders in our community; and Women's Issues Network, a group of individuals that monitors the status of women and children.

 

Cheryl Boswell is Vice President of YMCA Metropolitan Dallas. Cheryl helps the local campaign with fitness programming for the annual Health Fair as well as building new community partnerships with churches and other non-profits in the Dallas area.

Angela Choquette is a Private Client Advisor for U.S. Trust, Bank of America Private Wealth Management.  She is also a member of the Junior League of Dallas.

Diana C. Dutton is an attorney with Akin, Gump, Strauss, Hauer & Feld, LLP and specializes in environmental law.   She is involved in various local boards including Girls Inc. Dallas, The Women's Museum, Dallas Women's Foundation and the Community Council of Greater Dallas.

Dr. Cara EastCara East, MD, FACP, is board certified in internal medicine and cardiovascular diseases, and has practiced with North Texas Heart Center for 11 years.  She is a recognized expert in the diagnosis and treatment of cholesterol, triglyceride, and lipid disorders and has dedicated 25 years to cardiac research.  She also has extensive expertise in echocardiography.  Dr. East is the medical director of the Clinical Cardiology Research Center and the clinical director of the noninvasive cardiology department at Baylor University Medical Center.  She is a member of the Dallas County Medical Society, American Heart Association, and the American Medical Association. 
Laura EstradaLaura Estrada is the President and Owner of Garza Business Services Inc. She is the current chair of the Dallas Convention and Visitors Bureau and Mayor Tom Leppert's downtown task force.  She was president of the Dallas Women's Foundation and the Hispanic 100 and spent four years as the Chair of the Dallas Cultural Affairs Commission.  Laura has been a testimonial speaker at many of the Dallas Sister to Sister events and acts as a cheerleader for others in making the healthy lifestyle changes needed to lower the risk of heart disease.
Charlotte Gish, CNM, MSN, is the Regional Women's Health Coordinator for Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS), Region VI, located in Dallas, Texas. She is responsible for working with community based health and social organizations, state and local health departments, tribal organizations, academic institutions, consumers and health professionals concerning women's health issues in the states of Arkansas, Louisiana, New Mexico, Oklahoma, and Texas.  
Susan Hoff

Susan Hoff is the CEO and President of ChildCareGroup, a longtime United Way partner agency. Her professional experience includes the positions of teacher, child care center director, and parent educator in domestic violence and drug abuse prevention programs. She is a trainer, public speaker, and an accomplished fund developer. She has also developed curricula and educational publications for children and adults. Susan is a well-known children's advocate at the local, state, and national levels.

Laurie LarreaLaurie Bouillon Larrea is president of Workforce Solutions Greater Dallas where she is responsible for the planning and oversight of workforce development programs funded through a variety of federal and state grants.  Laurie is active in the Dallas campaign in helping promote the Sister to Sister Heart Health Fair to the organizations and constituents Workforce Solutions serves.
Becky Mann is the Marketing Manager for the Baylor Jack and Jane Hamilton Heart and Vascular Hospital.  Baylor is the local screening partner for all Dallas Sister to Sister events.
Betty MurrayBetty Murray, CN, HHC, RYT is Founder of Living Well Health & Wellness Center.  She is a board certified nutritionist and holistic health educator.  She has participated as a speaker and given healthy cooking demonstrations in many Sister to Sister events as well as coordinates the Living Well De-Stress Area at the annual Dallas Heart Health Fair.

Susan Smithson is VP of Programs for the YWCA of Metropolitan Dallas whose mission is to help improve women's lives and remove barriers to self sufficiency.  She is active in the Dallas campaign in helping promote the Sister to Sister Heart Health Fair to YWCA constituents as well as hosts many of the community council meetings.

Joyce Tapley is Executive Director of the Martin Luther King Community Health Clinic.  The clinic was founded in 1985 and serves the people of Dallas County.  This service area has been designated as a Medically Underserved Area and as Health Professional Shortage Area. The clinic provides services such as pediatrics, obstetrics and gynecology, internal medicine, immunizations, pharmacy, laboratory, radiology, social services, family planning, WIC, HIV/AIDS testing and counseling, dental, health education, nutrition counseling, and transportation assistance.

Angela Shellene

Angela Reed Shellene, Campaign Manager
Angela specializes in event production, campaign and community initiatives.  She has helped manage numerous high-profile civic and grassroots projects and has years of experience working with nonprofit organizations. 
Angela takes an active role in the management of the Dallas Sister to Sister campaign, working with sponsor solicitation and activation, exhibitor sales, media outreach and community support.  She has served as the Campaign Manager since its inception in 2004.  Under her leadership, Sister to Sister has provided free cardiac screenings for over 4,400 women in the Dallas area.

Vicki Wait

Vicki Wait, Assistant Campaign Manager
Vicki manages the logistical planning and execution of all Dallas Sister to Sister campaign events.  In addition to managing all events, Vicki specializes in forging new community partnerships.  She expertly leverages those partnerships to promote new and ongoing campaign initiatives and activities. Vicki also heads up the campaign's volunteer recruitment efforts.

Amanda Gibbons

Amanda Gibbons, Assistant Campaign Manager
Amanda manages the campaign branding including the design of all marketing and promotional materials.  Amanda is also responsible for the activation of all media and screening partner sponsorships for the campaign.

Debbie Dingell

Debbie Dingell is currently Vice-Chair of the General Motors Foundation and a senior executive at General Motors. She is an active civic and community leader in both Michigan and Washington, D.C. and is a recognized national advocate for women and children. Ms. Dingell has served as Honorary Chair since the inception of the Detroit Campaign in the fall of 2005.

Tonita Cheatham

Tonita Cheatham was appointed Director of Public Relations and Marketing at Harper University Hospital and Hutzel Women's Hospital in May 2005, which are affiliated with the Detroit Medical Center and Wayne State University.  Ms. Cheatham oversees all the public relations and marketing functions of the hospitals.  Tonita has been a Co-Chair of the Community Council since the fall of 2005.

Linda O'Brien is an accomplished entrepreneur and respected business leader as the Owner and CEO of Emerald Steel Processing. Linda has served as the Co-Chair of the Detroit Sister to Sister Campaign since its inception in 2005 and has shared her inspirational story as a heart attack survivor with thousands of women across Metro Detroit.

Cheri Alexander

Cheri Alexander is the Executive Director of Programming at University of Michigan Ross School of Business Executive Education Department. She was previously President of the General Motors University and Executive Director Global HR for the General Motors Corporation. Ms. Alexander has been a member of the Community Council since the inception of the Detroit Campaign in the fall of 2005.

Karen Cullen

Karen Cullen, Vice President of Corporate Communications, joined Ilitch Holdings in September 2005.  Ms. Cullen joined the Community Council for the 2007-2008 Campaign and became one of the Campaign Co-Chairs during the 2008-2009 Campaign.

Maggie Allessee is a philanthropist and has been a member of the Community Council since the inception of the Detroit Campaign in the fall of 2005.

Kristiana Appleby is Co-Founder, Executive Director and Trustee of the Suite Dreams Project, which is the charitable arm of General Sports and Entertainment.  She is involved in all development decisions for the Project and is an active voice in our community.  Ms. Appleby has been a member of the Community Council since 2005.

Linda Bottger has been a member of the Community Council since the inception of the Detroit Campaign in the fall of 2005.

Carolee Cameron has been a member of the Community Council since the inception of the Detroit Campaign in the fall of 2005.

Debbie Carter has been a member of the Community Council since 2007.

Mary Stephens Ferris has been a member of the Community Council since the inception of the Detroit Campaign in the fall of 2005.

Christina Lovio-George

Christina Lovio-George is Founder, President and CEO of lovio george, and is a leading communications professional whose more-than 30 years of experience and dedication to Detroit continues to influence the transformation of the city and change the conversation about Detroit.  Ms. Lovio-George has been a member of the Community Council since 2005.

Beth S. Gotthelf is a shareholder based in Butzel Long's Bloomfield Hills office, heading up the environmental, energy and land use practice. Ms. Gotthelf has been a member of the Community Council since the inception of the Detroit Campaign in the fall of 2005.

Jayne Hammond has been a member of the Community Council since the inception of the Detroit Campaign in the fall of 2005.

Ann Marie Hribar has been a member of the Community Council since 2007.

Eleanor M. Josaitis

Eleanor M. Josaitis co-founded Focus: HOPE with Father William T. Cunningham in the aftermath of the 1967 Detroit riots.  The civil and human rights organization works to eliminate racism, poverty and injustice primarily by accessing individuals to the financial mainstream. In 2002, Mrs. Josaitis was named one of the 100 Most Influential Women by Crain's Detroit Business. Ms. Josaitis has been a member of the Community Council since 2005.

Wendy Kemp joined the Detroit Sister to Sister Community Council for the 2008-2009 Campaign.

Florine Mark has been a member of the Community Council since the inception of the Detroit Campaign in the fall of 2005.

Kelli B. Matthew serves as Chief Human Resources Officer of Clark Hill PLC.  Ms. Matthew leads the recruitment of lateral members and associates, oversees the human resources function for the firm's support staff and the campus recruiting as well.  Ms. Matthew has been a member of the Community Council since 2005.

Patricia E. Mooradian

Patricia E. Mooradian is the President of The Henry Ford.  Since joining the institution in 2000, Mooradian has developed a ten-year strategic plan focusing on increased attendance, new visitor experiences and amenities, new educational products and benchmark hospitality.  Ms. Mooradian has been a member of the Community Council since 2005.

Terrina L. Murrey is Director of Human Resources at Compuware Corporation. Her responsibilities include employee relations, training and development and policy administration for their Strategic Services, Technology, Covisint and Commercial Enablement divisions.  Ms. Murrey has been a member of the Community Council since the 2006-2007 Campaign.

Joni C. Nelson

Joni Nelson is Vice President of Human Resources at Ilitch Holdings, Inc. She joined the Ilitch family of companies in 2004 with twenty-three years of Human Resources leadership experience. Nelson provides expertise and leadership by developing and improving workplace initiatives.  Ms. Nelson has served on the Community Council since 2007.

Tina Pelland has served on the Detroit Sister to Sister Community Council since 2007.

Dr. Michelle Schreiber

Dr. Michelle Schreiber is the Senior Vice President and Chief Quality and Safety Officer for the Detroit Medical Center, is responsible for quality, safety, infection control and regulatory readiness for the entire hospital system.  Dr. Schreiber has been an active member of the Detroit Sister to Sister Community Council since 2007.

Deborah Scola has served on the Detroit Sister to Sister Community Council since 2007.

Martha G. Scott

State Senator Martha G. Scott was elected by Special Election in 2001 to the Michigan Senate for the 2nd District.  The Senator presently is the sponsor of bills that would reform Michigan's insurance laws, and she's dedicated to bringing affordable automobile and home insurance to the citizens of Michigan. Senator Scott has served on the Detroit Sister to Sister Community Council since 2006.

Jackie Silhanek has been a member of the Community Council since the inception of the Detroit Campaign in the fall of 2005.

Alma Wheeler Smith

State Representative Alma Wheeler Smith, a former Michigan State Senator from 1994-2002, was elected to the House of Representatives in 2004 and is now in her third term.  She is now a member of the Appropriations Committee in the House, where she Chair on the Subcommittee of Corrections. Representative Wheeler Smith has served on the Community Council since 2006.

Cassie Sobelton has been a member of the Community Council since the inception of the Detroit Campaign in the fall of 2005.

Colby Zemmin has been a member of the Community Council since the inception of the Detroit Campaign in the fall of 2005.

Mary Zuckerman

Mary L. Zuckerman is the Executive Vice President and Chief of Business Operations for the Detroit Medical Center. Before joining the DMC in January 2004, she spent eight years with Wayne County. She's held various positions, including Deputy County Executive.  Ms. Zuckerman joined the Community Council during the 2008-2009 Campaign.

Janette Kolodge

Janette Kolodge, Michigan Region Executive Director 

Janette has worked in health and educational non-profit development for more than 20 years.  She is a qualified and successful fund development, public relations, communication and non-profit management professional.  Throughout her career Janette has focused her efforts on marketing, ecommunication, board development and strategic planning for some leading non profits, more recently as Vice President of Development for a large health care provider in SE Michigan.

Jacksonville 2009 Community Council

Amy Jarvis

Dr. Amy Jarvis is the Jacksonville Community Council Chair for the 2009-10 Campaign year.  Dr. Jarvis is a cerebrovascular neurologist with Baptist Neurology at Baptist Health. She is a member of the American Academy of Neurology, the American Heart Association//American Stroke Association, and the Neurologic Society of Georgia.  She completed her residency in neurology at Georgetown University Hospital in Washington, D.C., where she served as chief resident. She completed her fellowship in cerebrovascular neurology at Emory University Hospital in Atlanta. 

Linda Hansen Allen

Linda Allen is Director of Women's Imaging for Baptist Health System in Jacksonville Florida.  Throughout her career she has been actively involved in women's community health outreach and educational initiatives.

Vickie Cavey

Vickie Cavey is the Director of Strategic Partnerships and Acquisitions for JEA and was the recipient of the Community Way, Heart of Gold award from Volunteer Jacksonville in 2007.

 

Kenyonn Demps

Kenyonn Demps is a native of Jacksonville Florida, holds a Masters Degree in Health Service Administration and has spent 20 years in the senior citizen community. She currently is the Director of Meals on Wheels where she oversees the delivery of 1100 meals a day to homebound seniors.

Jennifer Halbach

Jennifer Rodriguez Halbach is the Marketing Director at Park Ridge Nursing Center.  Jennifer's professional experiences provide a wealth of knowledge and diversity in the areas of marketing, management, sales, finance, technology and training.  In addition to Sister to Sister, Jennifer is also actively involved in various community and charitable organizations throughout North Florida such as the Red Cross, United Way and the Jacksonville Chamber of Commerce.

Cindy Hamilton

Cynthia Hamilton serves as the Director of Public Relations at Baptist Health for more than 20 years. Cindy has focused on developing, managing and implementing activities designed to expand community awareness.  Her experience includes planning, management and implementation of targeted public relations campaigns, as well as media strategy, event planning and advertising.

Kemberli Johann

Kemberli Johann is a Planning and Design Manager with AT&T.  She became involved with Sister to Sister three years ago through her work with the Women of AT&T (WOA) Florida Chapter, an employee resource group. 

Ame Keefe

Ame Keefe is a Certified Medical Assistant and has been a member of the Sister to Sister Jacksonville Community Council since the inaugural event in 2006.

Mary Kay O'Rourke

Mary Kay O'Rourke is the President/CEO of Habitat for Humanity of Jacksonville, Inc. (HabiJax).  She was promoted from her original position of Director of Client Services (1997) to Chief Operating Officer/ Interim President in 2005 and then promoted to President in 2006. Ms. O'Rourke is very active in Jacksonville community organizations, and has been a wonderful asset to Sister to Sister.

Lori Pugh

Lori Pugh is an event producer with PRI Productions and has been a part of the STS campaign since its inception in 2005. Lori was one of original event coordinators for the Jacksonville location.

Pamela RamaPamela R. Rama, MD, FACC practices as a Cardiologist at Jacksonville Heart Center in Jacksonville Beach, Florida.  Dr. Rama was the Co-Chair of the Sister to Sister Healthy Heart Campaign in Jacksonville for 2008-2009.

Carol Royer is Manager of Advertising and Marketing Programs for Safariland, a BAE Systems Inc Company.  Carol has been on the Jacksonville Sister to Sister Community Council since its inception in 2006. 

Lynn ShermanLynn Sherman serves as the Director of Community Health for Baptist Health, and she is responsible for coordinating volunteers for the Sister to Sister Women's Heart Health Fairs.  She has been involved with STS for the past four years.
Angela Spears

Angela Spears is a Reporter for First Coast News NBC 12/ABC 25 in Jacksonville, Florida.  She has been working with the Sister to Sister Community Council and the Heart Health Fair in Jacksonville since 2006.

Allison Teger

Allison Teger is a licensed therapist in Jacksonville Florida and is the spokesperson for WomenHeart. She has been a member of Sister to Sister since 2006.

Charles Callaghan

Charles W. Callaghan, Campaign Manager
Charles was instrumental in launching Sister to Sister in Northeast Florida through the inaugural Jacksonville Women's Heart Health Fair in 2006. Charles leverages his long history as an advertising and public relations professional to generate positive, productive local awareness of heart health issues for women. As a result, the last four health fairs in Jacksonville have produced record screening results and increased understanding of heart health in private and community sectors.

Jessi Odell

Jessi Odell worked as a public relations intern for the 2008 Jacksonville Sister to Sister Campaign and is now the full-time coordinator. Jessi works closely with local media and sponsor organizations to secure event coverage, financial support and public awareness. She brings career experience in event production and an education based in public relations and advertising, and generates creative and long-lasting impressions of the Sister to Sister Campaign, and the health issues it represents.

Tina Starling

Tina Starling is newest member to the Sister to Sister Campaign.  As the Campaign Manager for Jacksonville, Tina is responsible for sponsorship solicitation and execution, fund raising initiatives, community outreach, public relations, recruitment of and collaboration with the local Community Council and strategic partnership development.

Another Successful Women’s Heart Health Fair!

We had another wonderful women's heart health fair on May 7 at Century Park.  Over 1,900 women turned out to get heart smart. We featured lifesaving medical information; cooking, fitness, and other lifestyle demonstrations; entertainment and door prizes; as well as the opportunity to get screened for heart disease and meet with a medical counselor.

Sister to Sister's Community Council is a made up of a group of select women from the corporate, government and non-profit worlds who come together to help plan the National Women's Healthy Heart Campaign.  These female executives are local leaders who pass on our heart-health message to the women they influence in their communities.  They are aware of how critical it is to promote awareness of heart disease among women, and understand the need to turn knowledge into action.

Our Community Council members assist the Campaign with program planning, outreach, promotion and sponsorship sales.  We truly appreciate their efforts in helping to save the lives of women in the Los Angeles area.

C. Noel Bairey Merz, MDC. Noel Bairey Merz, MD, holds the Women's Guild Endowed Chair in Women's Health, and is Director of the Women's Heart Center as well as the Preventive and Rehabilitative Cardiac Center at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center. She also is Professor of Medicine at Cedars-Sinai.
Dr. Bairey Merz's research interests include women and heart disease, and the roles of mental stress, exercise, stress management, and nutrition in heart disease. Currently, she is chair of the National Institutes of Health (NIH)-sponsored WISE (Women's Ischemic Syndrome Evaluation) initiative, which is investigating potential methods for more effective diagnosis and evaluation of coronary artery disease in women.  She has been the Co-Chair of the LA Sister to Sister Community Council since 2005.
Jeannie BussJeanie Buss is currently entering her 10th season as the Laker's Executive Vice President of Business Operations and is responsible for overseeing all of the Laker's business operations including relationships with the team's multiple broadcast partners.  Working closely with the Lakers General Manager, Vice President of Player Personnel and Assistant General Manager, Jeanie is also involved with the team's marketing, sponsorships and other business dealings.  Actively involved in the community, Jeanie serves as the President of the Lakers Youth Foundation which raises money for Southern California youth charities.  She has been a Community Council Co-Chair and generous supporter of Sister to Sister since 2007.
Cynthia Giordano Taylor

Cynthia Giordano Taylor is the Senior Director of Marketing and Communications with CB Richard Ellis for 2000 Avenue of the Stars at Century Park - the venue destination for the 2008 and 2009 Sister to Sister Heart Health Fairs in Century City, California.  A member of the Sister to Sister Community Council, Cynthia was the Co-Chairperson of the Women's Heart Health Fair for 2008 and 2009.

Ellen Eidem

Ellen Eidem, M.S. is the Director of the Los Angeles County Department of Public Health, Office of Women's Health (OWH), which seeks to improve the health status of women in L.A. County, especially low income and underserved women.  The Office of Women's Health has been an active Sister to Sister participant since 2004 and Ellen has been a speaker at the LA Executive Breakfasts for three of those years.

Katie Grieco

Katie Grieco is Vice President of Operations and New Project Development for the Craft Worldwide Holdings with responsibility for developing and overseeing all Craft, Craftsteak and Craftbar restaurants.  She supports Sister to Sister LA through hosting the Executive Women's Breakfast at Craft and championing the cause within the restaurant industry.

Abbe Land

West Hollywood Mayor Abbe Land is also the Co-Chief Executive Officer of The Saban Free Clinic (the Los Angeles Free Clinic).  She has been supportive of Sister to Sister's efforts, including developing partnerships between the organization and the City of West Hollywood for health education and screening events, and speaking at the Sister to Sister Executive Women's Breakfast.

Abigail Lewis

Abigail Lewis is editor and publisher of Whole Life Times, a bimonthly Los Angeles magazine that has been publishing leading edge information about natural health, the environment, non-denominational spirituality, and progressive issues for thirty years. She has served on Sister-to-Sister's L.A. community council for two years, and was grateful for the opportunity to help hundreds of women get free health screenings at last year's health fair.

Renee Watkinson

Renee Watkinson is the Vice President of Property Management and Director with CB Richard Ellis for Century Park.  Through her community and philanthropic work, Renee has helped raise more than $200,000 for those in need.  Renee served on the Sister to Sister Community Council for the 2008 and 2009 Women's Heart Health Fairs held at Century Park.

Logan Williams

Logan Williams, Department Manager, Cedars-Sinai Medical Center has dedicated his life to providing shoulders for others to stand upon in times of need.  He has reached out to diverse organizations across the county and has been a catalyst for improving the health of communities for over forty-one years.  Cedars-Sinai Medical Center was the Los Angeles Medical sponsor for the Sister to Sister Heart Health Fair, and Mr. Williams coordinated their participation.

Miami 2009 Community Council

Manuel Diaz

Manuel A. Diaz was elected Mayor of Miami in 2001.  He is president of the US Conference of Mayors.  Mayor Diaz has been Co-Chair of Sister to Sister Miami since its inception and provided instant credibility for our Campaign in its first year.

Robin Diaz is an executive with Royal Caribbean International and Celebrity Cruises and helped her husband, Mayor Diaz, launch our Campaign in Miami 5 years ago.

Carrie P. Meek

A member of the Florida Legislature and later Congress, Hon. Carrie P. Meek always ensured that South Florida's less fortunate enjoyed representation.  She now runs the Carrie Meek Foundation and has served as Co-Chair of Sister to Sister Miami since 2005. 

Congresswoman Ileana Ros-Lehtinen (right) has represented Florida's 18th district in the U.S. House of Representatives since 1989. She was the first Hispanic woman and first Cuban-American elected to Congress.  She has served as Honorary Co-Chair of Sister to Sister Miami since 2005.

Carol Biggs

As the Vice President, Carol Biggs is responsible for the strategic development of the comprehensive Cardiovascular Program at South Miami Hospital, our local presenting sponsor and hospital partner.  We are pleased to have her as an Honorary Co-Chair.

Audrey Edmonson

Commissioner Audrey Edmonson served as Mayor of the City of El Portal from 1999-2005 and went on to become a Miami-Dade County Commissioner.   As an Honorary Co-Chair, Commissioner Edmonson provides an important link for the Campaign with Miami-Dade County.

Ana Abele is President of Professional Press, a printing company. She has served on the Miami Community Council since its inception and has provided discounted printing services for the Campaign.

Adrienne Arsht is the former chairperson of TotalBank and recognized as a local business leader and philanthropist in Miami.

Aimee Artiles

Aimee Artiles is president of Bella Communications, a marketing and public affairs consulting firm, and has been involved with STS since its inception.  As the health fair's Volunteer Coordinator, she secures and manages 200 volunteers to assist with the health screenings.

Alison Austin is CEO of The Belafonte Tacolcy Center, an organization that keeps children from 20 area schools safe and healthy during out of school hours.  Alison was the 2008 recipient of the Sister to Sister Deborah Natansohn Award given to an individual promoting heart disease prevention in our community
Laura Bayzler

Laura Bazyler has been involved with STS Miami in the past few years to facilitate access to much needed healthcare services in South Miami-Dade.  The Open Door Health Center provides health education and assistance to these women in need of healthcare.

Laura Brehm is Director of the Department of Risk Management for the City of Miami.  She serves as liaison to the office of Mayor Diaz, one of our co-chairs.

Harriet Carter

Harriet Carter (left) represents U.S. Congresswoman Ileana Ros-Lehtinen as her Congressional Community liaison.  Harriet's "love affair" with STS began when she represented Congresswoman Ros-Lehtinen at the 2007 Executive Women's Breakfast and has since become a leader in promoting our heart-healthy mission and activities.

Charesse Chester is President of Charesse Chester Public Relations. She has assisted Congresswoman Carrie Meek with the Sister to Sister Miami Sub-Committee to reach out to the underserved women in South Florida.

Gui llermina Damas is Chairperson of Miami-Dade College, Wolfson Campus, Departments of Natural Sciences, Health & Wellness.  Miami-Dade College has provided many of our medical and non-medical volunteers each year.

Theresa Davis

Terri Davis is a human resources professional and a board member of the Greater Miami Society of Human Resource Management.  Terri has been our liaison to the HR community locally.

Judith Dupoux is an RN who is a Health Educator for Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Florida, one of our top sponsors for the past few years.

Paula Cook-EhrlichPaula Cook-Ehrlich is President of A Privileged Lifestyle, Inc., a global marketing and distribution business with representation in over 40 countries.  She is a Past Chair of the Women's Chamber of Commerce of Miami-Dade County, and has been a Miami Community Council member since its inception.
Marie O. Etienne

Marie O. Etienne, MSN, ARNP, PLNC is a tenure Associate Professor, Senior at Miami Dade College's Medical Campus.  Marie championed our cause with the nursing students in her program. 

Tori Gabriel

Tori Gabriel is Director of Education and Prevention at the Florida Heart Research Institute (FHRI), an independent, not-for-profit organization with the mission to: Stop heart disease through research, education and prevention.  FHRI is our main screening partner at the health fair each year.

Patricia Joassin Rouzeau is Director of Family Wellness at the YWCA Miami.  She has coordinated the child care at every Sister to Sister Miami Health Fair.

Willowstine Lawson

Willowstine Lawson is Regional Director of the Office of U.S. Senator Bill Nelson; and serves as an important liaison for the local Campaign and the Senator.

Patricia E. Lee is Staff Specialist for Miami-Dade Public Schools Office of Community Service.  She has been instrumental in promoting our Campaign within the Miami-Dade Public School System and securing their endorsement.

Danet Linares is Executive Vice President of Blanca Commercial Real Estate.

Penny Parhman is Administrative Director of Miami-Dade County Public Schools Department of Food and Nutrition and has served as an important liaison to the service workers in the school system.

Cornelia Pereira is Senior Vice President, Communications & External Affairs for the Greater Miami Chamber of Commerce.  She has actively promoted out Campaign among the members of the Chamber.
Rosa Maria Plasecia is Executive Director of Amigos for Kids, a nonprofit dedicated to preventing child abuse by valuing children, strengthening families and educating communities.  She has been instrumental in disseminating our message within the Hispanic community.
Janisse Post

Janisse Post is the Senior Manager of Project Development and Research & Outcomes at South Miami Heart Center.  Janisse has served as our day-to-day contact with South Miami Heart Center, our local presenting sponsor and hospital partner.

Marta Quintana is Senior Development Officer of The United Way of Miami-Dade County.  The United Way has embraced the STS Campaign in Miami and has pro-actively promoted our mission among their constituents.

Nelly Rubio

Nelly Rubio is Community and Public Relations Director at WFOR-TV, CBS4 and WBFS, My33. Nelly has held this position for more than 20 years and founded Neighbors 4 Neighbors-- the Stations' community service organization.  CBS4 has served as our primary network TV media partner for the past few years.

Martha Sanchez

Martha A. Sanchez, RN, BSN, MBA, is CEO of Miami-Dade Area Health Education Center (AHEC), Inc.  She has experience in risk management, quality assessment, clinical operations, and fiscal management. 

Janisse Schoepp

Janisse Schoepp is Senior Program Officer and Policy Analyst at Health Foundation of South Florida, a grant making organization working to improve the health status of South Florida residents.  Her assistance in our health program has been instrumental.

Penny S. Shaffer is Market President, South Florida, for Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Florida.  She is an active participant of the community council and has led the way for BCBS to be a top sponsor each year.  Penny was awarded the 2009 STS Deborah Natansohn Award to an Individual for promoting heart disease prevention in our community.

As the Community liaison for Jackson Health Systems, Synthia Snow brings knowledge of community resources and provides support to all Sister to Sister programs.   Heart Disease is of special interest to Synthia as several family members have been affected. She's served on the Community Council for 4 years.

Ilana StrickonIlana Strickon, Associate at Holland & Knight has experience in the areas of real estate finance, acquisitions, dispositions, joint ventures and commercial leasing.  She has joined the Miami Community Council for the 2009-10 Campaign.
Sandy Thomas

Sandy Thomas is an Engineer at AT&T and very involved in their community initiatives. She is an avid volunteer and spends her spare time dedicated to improving the lives of people where she works and lives.   She is one of our top volunteers at the annual Health Fair.

Ann-Karen Weller

As the Director of Community Health and Planning for the Miami-Dade County Health Department, Ann-Karen Weller is responsible for the oversight supervision of Chronic Disease Prevention, Community Health Planning, Worksite Wellness, Tobacco Control and Prevention and Healthy Start Programs.  She serves on the Miami Community Council as our chief liaison to the local health dept.

Mary Young

Having lost her mother eight years ago to heart disease, Mary Young enthusiastically became one of Miami's original Community Council members.  A past President of the YWCA, a board member of the Florida Heart Research Institute and the United Way of Miami Dade, she facilitates community advocates for STS in an effort to raise women's heart health awareness.

Allen S. Furst

Allen S. Furst, Campaign Manager
Allen S. Furst serves as the Campaign Manager for the Sister to Sister Foundation Women's Healthy Heart Campaign in Miami.  Currently, Allen provides event management & marketing services for both non-profit organizations and corporate sponsors.  He has spent over 25 years of his professional career working in the world of sports and entertainment.  In addition, Allen serves on the Board of several charities, including the Alonzo Mourning Charities, Athletes for Hope and the Overtown Youth Center.

  • Metrorail – From north or south, take Metrorail to the Government Center stop in Downtwon Miami. Go down one level and take the Inner Loop (Downtown) and exit at the Knight Center Station. Go downstairs and turn right to enter the walkway connecting to the Convention Center at the James L Knight Center. Metrorail is $1.25 one way; Metromover is free.
  • Park at the City of Miami Garage #4 – Located in the Bank of America Tower (old Centrust) at 100 SE 2nd Street. Entrances are at SE 2nd Street near SE 1st Avenue, and at SE 4th Street near SE 1st Avenue. Please make note of where you park and take the elevator to the ground floor. Enter the walkway to your right and it will take you to the Convention Center at the James L. Knight Center. We will have a Parking Validation desk. With validation, you will pay only $2.00 for parking.
  • Park at the City of Miami Garage #3 – Located directly across the street from Miami Dade College Wolfson Campus at 190 NE 3rd Street. The main entrance is located at NE 3rd Street near NE 2nd Avenue. Another entrance is on NE 2nd Street. Once parked, exit the garage and proceed east (toward the bay) on NE 3rd Street 1/4 block to the College/Bayside Metromover Station. Metromover is free. St. Louis 2009 Community Council

Sister to Sister's Community Council is a made up of a group of select women from the corporate, government and non-profit worlds who come together to help plan the National Women's Healthy Heart Campaign.  These local leaders pass on our heart-health message to the women they influence in their communities.  They are aware of how critical it is to promote awareness of heart disease among women, and understand the need to turn knowledge into action.

Our Community Council members assist the Campaign with program planning, outreach, promotion and sponsorship sales.  We truly appreciate their efforts in helping to save the lives of women in the St. Louis area.

Denny DeNarvaez

Denny DeNarvaez is the Honorary Campaign Chair of the St. Louis Community Council.  She has been a health care industry executive for many years, and is the CEO and President of St. John's Mercy Health Care. It was Denny's shared vision regarding women and heart disease that led to St. John's role in supporting the Campaign.  She has been a wonderful asset to the St. Louis Healthy Heart Campaign.

George Roman

George Roman is vice president of Government Operations for Boeing Integrated Defense Systems. He manages IDS' nationwide State and Local Government Operations organization, integrating its efforts with legislative and business initiatives.  Roman is also responsible for interaction with community leadership and for business continuity planning in the region. He helps identify areas where its leadership and philanthropic giving will have the greatest impact.  Sister to Sister is pleased to welcome George Roman as Co-Chair of the 2009-10 Campaign.

Patty Arnold

Patricia (Patty) Arnold is the President of the St. John's Mercy Foundation supporting St. John's Mercy Medical Center in Creve Coeur and St. John's Mercy Hospital in Washington, Missouri through philanthropy services.  She serves on the executive team providing insight on how philanthropy impacts the provision of services and programs as well as outreach, educational, and research efforts within the various departments in a health care environment. 

Amy Burroughs is the Sales Director for Fox 2 -KTVI in St. Louis.

Marsha Chappelow

Marsha Chappelow was recently promoted to Superintendent of the highly ranked Ladue School District in Ladue, MO. Martha has volunteered her time in supporting Sister to Sister since 2005.

Marlene Crabtree has been an employee of Nordstrom since 1995 and has achieved Pacesetter status numerous times. 

Lynn Deane is the Associate Publisher of St. Louis Woman magazine and has played a huge role in supporting Sister to Sister's effort in St. Louis since 2005. She has served in a variety of roles including Co-Chair of the Campaign, Community Council member and volunteer since 2005.

Mary T. Dolan is the director of Community Affairs for Fox 2 - KTVI in St. Louis and was instrumental in facilitating Fox 2's tremendous support of the Sister to Sister Campaign in St. Louis since 2005.

Lori Fiegel has served as the Director of Strategic Planning for St. Louis County for many years. Lori has been very generous with her time in volunteering at our Health Fairs and other events since 2005.

Virginia Frank is the V.P. of Operations for St. John's Mercy Heart & Vascular Hospital.

Marie Glancy

Marie Glancy is Chief Operating Officer of Mercy Health Plans and joined the Council in 2008.

Debra HollingsworthAs Vice President External Affairs, Debra Hollingsworth manages community relations programs for AT&T and directs public affairs functions for Dave Nichols, president of AT&T-Missouri.  Her primary responsibilities are overseeing AT&T Foundation grant and charitable giving programs for Missouri.  Her many honors include being named one of the Most Influential St. Louisans in Business by the St. Louis Business Journal in 2008.  She has been a Community Council member since 2007.

Beth Kistner is a Creve Coeur City Council member and has been an active supporter of Sister to Sister since 2005.

Doug McCoy is the Store Manager of the Nordstrom West County store. He was recently awarded the company's highest recognition, the John W. Nordstrom award, made to one employee around the U.S. each year.

Vivian Moore is a retired administrator of the Rockwoods School District. She has been an amazing volunteer for Sister to Sister. Vivian is a heart attack survivor and has been a guest speaker at our events and other events around the St. Louis area.

Nancy Nietz is a Nordstrom employee and has generously supported the Campaign in St. Louis since 2005 with her time and energy.

Jill Saunders

Jill Saunders is the director of Corporate Communications for the Build A Bear Workshop that is based in St. Louis.  She has been a Council member since 2007.

Carl Schultz

Carl Schultz is the President of the St. Louis region for Mercy Health Plans.

Jill Schupp

Jill Schupp is a newly elected Missouri State Senator from the 82nd district. She has been a tremendous supporter of Sister to Sister since 2005.

Lauren Spellmeyer is the Marketing Director for West County Center in Des Peres, MO.  This has been the venue of Health Fair for the last two years.

Joyce Townser is the Regional Coordinator of Women's Health for the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services - Region VII in Kansas City. DHHS has supported our Campaigns each year as a sponsor.

 

Jane Unger is Director of Marketing and Outreach, Women's Services for St. John's Mercy Health Care. She has worked closely with Mark Gorski on the Campaign activities for the last two years.

Tuck Van Dyne is the Chief of the Office of Women's Health for the State of Missouri. Tuck played a key role in assisting the campaign since 2005 and he has helped its success greatly.

Jill Wise

Jill Wise is the Human Resources Director of Nordstrom and has worked tirelessly on our Campaigns for the last two years. She has helped secure dozens of Nordstrom employees as volunteers for our events.

Deb Wolfmeier is the Cardiovascular Marketing Outreach Coordinator at St. John's Mercy Heart & Vascular Hospital and has played a key role in driving the success of our Campaigns in St. Louis over the last two years.

Mark Gorski, Campaign Manager
Mark has served as the St. Louis Campaign Manager since June 2005.  From 1995 to 2003, Mark was the CEO of Tailwind Sports in San Francisco, which owned and managed the U.S. Postal Service Pro Cycling Team led by Lance Armstrong.  Mark competed in cycling for 17 years and was a 1984 Olympic Gold medalist.

Priscilla has supported the St. Louis campaign since June 2005.  Priscilla is Agency Founder and Principal of Carden Group Communications and has more than 16 years of experience implementing strategic public relations, marketing and communications strategies for clients in a wide range of industries.

Sister to Sister's 2nd annual Women's Heart Health Fair was held on March 20, 2009 at the Tampa Convention Center. Over 2,100 women turned out to get heart smart with lifestyle presentations, cutting-edge information on medical issues, and complimentary heart-health screenings.

Tampa 2009 Community Council

Pam Iorio

Mayor Pam Iorio has been the Honorary Co-Chair of the Tampa Sister to Sister Campaign since its inception in 2007.  She has been inspirational in encouraging city workers to attend the fair by allowing them to take time off from work to get screened.

Liana Lopez

Liana Lopez serves as the Public Affairs Director for the City of Tampa. In addition to serving as Co-Chair of the Sister to Sister Campaign, she currently serves on the Board of Directors of The Tampa Connection and is a member of the Junior League of Tampa.

Stephanie Amberg is Vice President of Public relations for OSI Restaurant Partners, LLC.  She was recently awarded the 2008 Founders award by Fleming's Prime Steak House & Wine Bar.  "Sister to Sister saved the life of a dear friend of mine.  That is an organization where I want to spend my time."

Angela Ardolino is the editor-in-chief of Tampa Bay Parenting Magazine.  We were lucky enough to be able to partner with Angela and Tampa Bay Parenting this year to present a special "kids area" at our Women's Heart Health Fair.

Mary Jane Badillo is Tampa General Hospital's Community Relations Manager.  Mary Jane brings the hospital's staff and services "to the community" by providing great educational health programs, valuable screenings, and working with local advocacy and charitable organizations. 

For the past three years, Shannon Black has been the Public Relations Coordinator for OSI Restaurant Partners, LLC.  A graduate of Clearwater Christian College, she is active in the Sister to Sister Campaign, as well as Friedreich's Ataxia Research Alliance.

Christine Burdick

With more than 30 years experience in retailing and urban development, Christine Burdick was chosen as the President of the Tampa Downtown Partnership in April of 2002.  She promotes the Healthy Heart Campaign to the downtown business community.

Barbara Casey

Barbara Casey arrived in Tampa just in time to become the Executive Director of Tampa's first Super Bowl.  She was named Director of Public Affairs for the Tampa Sports Authority.  "I was drawn to Sister to Sister by the story of a friend who was screened and identified by STS screening."  She is active in promoting the Campaign to the greater Tampa area. 

Colleen Chappell

Colleen Chappell is President and CEO of ChappellRoberts.  With nearly 20 years of experience, she specializes in brand development, integrated marketing, advertising, public relations and pricing strategies.  She is a great resource for potential sponsors and exhibitors for the Heart Health Fair.

Melinda Chavez is the Director of the Tampa Bay Business Committee for the Arts.  Melinda is a member of the Tampa Downtown Partnership and the Tampa Bay Business Committee.  Melinda has served for a number of years on the Gasparilla Sidewalk Art's Festival Committee.

Margo Eure's commitment to community involvement spans a number of years and all of the arts.  She has served on the Florida Orchestra Board; she is currently on the Board of the Tampa Museum of Art which is to open in January. She has chaired the Gasparilla Sidewalk Art Festival, a nationally acclaimed juried show. 

Joyce Fisk was an executive in the banking industry before moving to Tampa Bay and Company, the Tampa Visitor and Convention Bureau.  Joyce is Vice President of the Partnership for Tampa Bay and Company.  During her professional years she has been associated with some of Tampa's largest events.

Barbara Geoghagan

As Director of Public Information and Community Relations for Tampa International Airport, Brenda Geoghagan is responsible for the development, planning and implementation of programs.  Brenda helped promote the Campaign in the community, volunteered her time and collected donations for door prizes and goody bags.

Dr. Joette Giovinco

Dr. Joette Giovinco is the medical reporter for FOX 13.  Most recently, her focus has been cardiovascular disease prevention, as the co-director of the Lipid Clinic at the University of South Florida, College of Medicine. She was a great addition to our council, helping to spread the word throughout the Tampa Bay area, speaking at luncheons to promote the Sister to Sister campaign and bringing awareness to heart disease.

Kari Goetz

As the Audience Development Manager for the Tampa Bay Performing Arts Center, Kari Goetz has the unique ability to reach out to organizations, corporations and the community on behalf of TBPAC.  Kari helped with door prizes, goody bags, contacts in the community, as well as entertainment at the Health Fair.

Irene Guy

Irene Guy is a recently retired Verizon Executive, and is very active in public policy and community relations in the greater Tampa area.

Lori Hudson

Lori Hudson joined Hillsborough County Government's team in October 2005, and serves as the County Communications spokesperson.  Lori strives to reach all citizens with the vital information that families, businesses and communities need to hear from their local government.  

Dianne Jacob is the senior Vice President of Marketing for Tampa Bay and Company.  She is a member of Leadership Florida and was an active facilitator for First Night Tampa Bay, a New Year's Eve Festival of the Arts.

Dr. Joan McCarthy

Dr. Joan McCarthy is a Gynecologist in a solo practice in Tampa. "South Tampa Gynecology" focuses on personalized care for women with a strong focus on maintaining good health through preventative medicine.  She promoted the Campaign throughout the Tampa medical community and volunteered at the Health Fair.

Juli MilasJuli Milas retired from Smith Barney/Citigroup and currently works as an independent contractor specializing in meeting planning and fundraising. Juli is active on several volunteer boards in Tampa, most of which are associated with the cultural arts. She tirelessly worked to promote Sister to Sister in the community.

Cyndy Miller has been the Director of Growth Management and Development Services for the City of Tampa.  She is a certified public accountant.  Prior to coming to Tampa, Ms. Miller served as Associate Administrator of Airports, Federal Aviation Administration in Washington D.C.

Gwendolyn Miller

Gwendolyn Miller was the first African- American female ever elected to the Tampa City Council in 1995.  Council Member Miller was the first African-American ever to be elected to the Tampa City Council.  Additionally, she was elected by her peers to serve as Chair of Tampa City Council three consecutive times.

Sandra Murman is the State Chairperson for the State Council for Healthy Communities.  She has been a member of the Health and Human Services Committee as well as its Chairperson.  "STS has been a dynamic force in the Tampa Bay community by bringing together women from all corners and uniting them in purpose and profession to help heart disease."

Rhonda Parag

Ronda M. Parag is the Publisher/Managing Editor of Tampa Bay Metro Magazine and Tampa Bay Weddings Magazine. Ronda is also responsible for the marketing of the magazine and securing advertising clients. In addition to being one of Sister to Sister's media partners, Ronda helped with door prizes and securing potential exhibitors.

Laura Schmalhorst

Laura Schmalhorst is one of the most well known caterers in Tampa.  She founded A La Carte Catering, Chef's on the Loose and Vagabond Gourmet.  She has used her creativity and culinary skill for a number of Tampa non-profit organizations.  She recently provided the catering for Sister to Sister's "Chics, Cheese and Cheers".

Mindy SnyderMindy Snyder is the Cable Television Manager for the City of Tampa Office of Cable Communication.  She manages the operation of City of Tampa Television and has worked for the city for over 24 years. She was integral in promoting the Fair to city workers, provided promotional spots on City TV and volunteered her personal time.
Janet Rivera Tucker

Janet Rivera Tucker currently serves the City of Tampa in the Human Resources Department, as the HR Special Projects Leader. Working with communications, marketing campaigns and training of strategic and tactical Workforce Development initiatives - Janet was able to widely promote the Sister to Sister campaign. Through her position with the city, she was able to reach all city employees through various internal communication outlets. 

Elizabeth Vocke is a Senior Account Supervisor in the Tampa office of Hill & Knowlton.  Vocke's primary responsibilities include public relations and media relations and she also has a special expertise in video production. Elizabeth managed a majority of the PR for the Sister to Sister Campaign.

Linda Zipkin was Public Relations Manager for Neiman Marcus and is currently a Marketing Consultant.  "The cause of STS is number one as the reason for my involvement.  Heart disease is near and dear to my heart since it claimed both of my parent's life. But the diversification and camaraderie of the dynamic women on this Executive Council is a terrific added bonus."

Barbara Stefany

Barbara Stefany, Campaign Manager
Barbara founded EventMakers in Tampa 26 years ago, as a result of producing events in a downtown revitalization effort.  This led to greater community outreach and service in many non-profit arenas.  Sister to Sister will never be far from Barbara's heart because her daughter's life was saved during a Health Fair screening.

Kristin Passath

Kristin Passath, Campaign Manager
In 2007 Kristin was identified at the Miami Sister to Sister Heart Health Fair as having catastrophic high blood pressure, which would have gone undetected due to her age, athletic lifestyle and good eating habits.  Since crediting Sister to Sister with saving her life, she has become a passionate advocate of its mission and work.  In 2008, she became president of EventMakers, a family-owned business.

Katie Nelson

Katie Nelson, Event Coordinator
Katie joined the EventMakers team in 2007 to assist with administration and event coordinating. Since coming on board, Katie has assisted in both of Tampa's Sister to Sister campaign seasons.

Krista Soroka

Krista Soroka, Event Coordinator
Krista's event experience includes managing health and fitness expos, creating and promoting local non-profit charity events, planning various grand openings and directing events for two Super Bowl Host Committees.

Washington D.C. 2009 Community Council

Sister to Sister's Community Council is a made up of a group of select women from the corporate, government and non-profit worlds who come together to help plan the National Women's Healthy Heart Campaign.  These female executives are local leaders who pass on our heart-health message to the women they influence in their communities.  They are aware of how critical it is to promote awareness of heart disease among women, and understand the need to turn knowledge into action.

Our Community Council members assist the Campaign with program planning, outreach, promotion and sponsorship sales.  We truly appreciate their efforts in helping to save the lives of women in the Washington D.C. area.

Maureen Bunyan

Maureen Bunyan joined Washington's ABC-7 News as a primary news anchor in 1999.  Prior to WJLA, she spent 22 years at WUSA-TV, where she won a reputation as a clear-thinking, clear-spoken and fair-minded newsperson.  Ms. Bunyan has been a leader in her profession and an outspoken advocate for women and minorities in the newsroom. She was a founder of the National Association of Black Journalists (1975) and of the International Women's Media Foundation (1990), which serves women journalists in 100 countries.  Ms. Bunyan is the recipient of several honorary degrees and has been honored by numerous local and national groups. Ms. Bunyan has been the Co-Chair of the Washington D.C. Community Council since its inception, and serves on the boards of numerous non-profit organizations. 

Michelle FentyMichelle Fenty is the First Lady of Washington D.C.  She currently serves as Of Counsel at the Seattle-based Perkins Coie law firm, where her practice emphasizes business counseling, commercial transactions, e-commerce and Internet, intellectual property, international business and licensing and technology business transactions.  She is involved in numerous non-profit organizations and has been the Co-Chair of the Washington D.C. Community Council since 2007.

Jami Bailey is one of the leaders in Washington, D.C. Weight Watchers, and she participates in many health outreach programs. At Sister to Sister's Womens Heart Health Fair, Bailey led a presentation that was very inspirational to the audience.

Margaret Bell is employed at Weight Watchers and has been a wonderful resource for the DC Community Council.

Judy Holland-Burton is the Senior Vice President of Washington Sports and Entertainment. In this position, she builds community involvement for D.C.'s professional sports teams, as well as showcases local children's dance talent during halftime shows.

Katrina Clemons is a manager at Grant Thornton LLC, an accounting firm based in Chicago, IL.

Kathy Coleman

Kathleen Coleman, RN, BSN, MPH serves as the Cardiac Outreach Coordinator for Adventist Healthcare and has done extensive work with the Sister to Sister Foundation since 2000. She has played a significant role in many programs, including visits to nearby campuses where she gives free medical advice.

Linda Roth Conte is the founder and President of Linda Roth Associates, LLC, a PR firm based in Washington, D.C. that focuses on hospitality public relations. She has developed marketing and publicity campaigns for independent and chain restaurants, hotels, associations, wine, beer and spirits companies and non-profit hospitality organizations.

Abby Fenton is WJLA-ABC 7 and NewsChannel 8's Director of Community Relations. She also serves as the Director of Partner Engagement at the DC Chamber of Commerce and the Director of Audience Engagement and Development at the Woolly Mammoth Theatre Company.

Phyllis Gaskins is employed at the Smithsonian Institution.

Frances Ashe Goins

Frances Ashe-Goins is the Deputy Director of the Office on Women's Health and is a registered nurse, health educator, policy analyst and innovator. As a Deputy Director, she participates in the formulation of policies, goals and activities related to women's health. She has also created many innovative programs to address HIV/AIDS.

Rose Harvell is a director for the cosmetics company Mary Kay. She currently resides in Temple Hills, Maryland and is very active in many outreach programs in her community.

Kaye Hayes is the Senior Advisor for Policy for the Office on Women's Health and for the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. Before this position, Hayes was the Special Assistant to the Surgeon General and Assistant Secretary for Health.

Kathy Hill is the current Sales Marketing Manager of WJLA-ABC 7 and NewsChannel 8, where she develops strategic marketing plans to increase profits. She is also the Sales Marketing Manager at allbritton communications.

Pamela Holman

Pamela Holman is the Coordinator of the Contributions and Membership Committee of Pepco Holdings, Inc.  In this role, she is the charitable contact for the company. She also contributes to the Community Services for Autistic Adults and Children organization.

Darlene Jackson is the Promotions Director at WHUR 96.3 at Howard University, of which she graduated from in 1985.

Soohyun Koo

Soohyun "Julie" Koo is the current Executive Director at the Office on Asian and Pacific Islander Affairs in Washington, DC.  Throughout her career, Koo has used her tri-lingual language fluency in Korean, Chinese and English to aid other Asian immigrants adjusting to life in the United States.

Beverly Kozak focuses on health administration and healthcare at Occupational Health Services for the Smithsonian Institution. She was also on the board of directors and chair of the Governmental Affairs Committee for the Metropolitan Washington Association of Occupational Health Nurses.

Judy Lichty

Judy Lichty is the Regional Director of Health and Wellness for Adventist HealthCare.  She has been involved with the development of many programs, including Cardiac and Cancer Outreach, Maternal Child Health and Community Health Education and the Low-Income Breast Cancer Screening Program. Lichty serves on the Adventist Community Services Board and the National Wellness Council.

Renee Nash is the Director of Information and Public Affairs at WHUR-FM. As a journalist, she has covered local and national politics, healthcare reform and civil rights, among many others. Nash is also on the board of many organizations including the Edith P. Wright Breast Cancer Foundation and Sisters of Hope.

Lisa Delpy Neirotti

Lisa Delpy Neirotti is an Associate Professor at George Washington University in D.C., and serves as a Consultant for both SFX and Octagon. She is one of the world's foremost Olympic scholars and Director of the Masters of Tourism Administration and Sports Management Programs at the GWU's School of Business.

Virginia Pancoe is currently a Sales Marketing Manager at WJLA-ABC 7 and NewsChannel 8 since 1997. She is also a Co-Chair of the Silver Circle of the NATAS National Capital Chesapeake Bay Chapter.

Catharine Ruhl

Catherine Ruhl, CNM, MS, is the Associate Director of the Association of Women's Health, Obstetric, and Neonatal Nurses. She writes many articles giving information and advice regarding a variety of women's health issues.

Gina Sacripanti is the Director of Business Development and Marketing at The Washington Examiner. Previously, she was the Chief Operating Officer for FDIC Federal Credit Union. She received her MBA from George Washington University in 2006.

Susan Sanders, M.S., acts as a Public Health Advisor for the Office on Women's Health, US DHHS. For the office, she serves as the team leader for Lupus Education and Awareness.

Angela Simmons is the Events Coordinator for the D.C. Department of Health. In this position, she has organized many health outreach programs in the district, including the Wellness Initiative Health Fair.

Ann Taubenheim is a Public Health Advisor at the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute in Washington, D.C. She has made many public speeches on women's health issues.   

Barbara Teng

Barbara Teng is a retired technology executive and a heart attack survivor. She has dedicated herself to women's heart disease prevention.  She serves on the Sister to Sister Community Council of Washington, D.C. and volunteers as the Director of Health Services for the Chinese Cultural and Community Service Center. She was featured on a Lifetime TV segment that was part of the network's "Health Corner" series.

Ngoc Trinh is the current Outreach Coordinator at the Mayor's Office on Asian Affairs and is on the office's Outreach, Education and Advocacy Committee. She has organized many programs throughout D.C. and focuses on safety.

Bonnie Wood is currently the Promotions Manager at WJLA-ABC 7 and NewsChannel 8. She graduated from Emory and Henry College with a BA in Mass Communications/Broadcasting.
