Low levels of vitamin B-6, B-12, and folic acid may lead to high homocysteine levels. Doctors aren’t clear on the connection between high homocysteine levels and heart disease, but it has been shown to lead to atherosclerosis (hardening of the arteries) and the formation of blood clots. While a test for homocysteine levels exists, it is expensive. If you think you are at risk, you should talk to your doctor about the benefits of a Vitamin B Complex supplement.

I would definitely recommend consulting with a doctor before starting the Vitamin B supplement, to make sure that it is appropriate for your own health. Only a medical professional can look at the other factors in your health history to make sure that it won't do you any harm.
