Tomatoes, tomato juice, tomato sauce and even ketchup have been shown to reduce a woman’s risk of heart disease by up to 30 percent. The Women’s Health Study followed 40,000 women for 11 years and found that those who ate tomatoes or tomato products at least 7 times a week had a lower risk of heart disease than those who didn’t. Researchers attribute it to the antioxidant lycopene, which is found in tomatoes and watermelon.
