Eating Heart-Smart in a Restaurant Can Be Easy

Restaurants are often a trap for high-calorie, high-fat meals – but they don’t have to be. To keep your decision-making on track, limit yourself to one alcoholic drink and follow these five simple rules:

  • Start with broth-based soup or a salad.
  • Choose entrees which are broiled or grilled rather than fried.
  • Avoid cream sauces.
  • Split your entrée with a friend or pack half to take home before you start eating.
  • Skip dessert or order just one for the whole table to share.
