An average Japanese diet includes three ounces a day of heart healthy fish, including tuna, sardines and salmon. As a result, death from coronary heart disease is low. In a study published in the Journal of American College of Cardiology, researchers found that even when LDL (bad) cholesterol was high, Japanese men concurrently had high rates of omega 3 fatty acids, which prevented clogging of the arteries.
