Women who went through menopause at 42 or younger are twice as likely to have a stroke as women who experience it later in life, found a University of Michigan School of Public Health study. Researchers suspect that lower estrogen levels may be the cause, but the results are unclear. If you experienced menopause at 42 or younger, be sure to monitor your blood pressure, cholesterol and other heart disease risk factors closely.
