Raw onions, along with romaine lettuce and tomatoes, are an excellent source of chromium. This mineral helps improve HDL (good) cholesterol levels and regulates blood sugar, which may prevent the onset of type 2 diabetes. Since it’s estimated that 25 to 50 percent of adults in the U.S. may be chromium deficient, why not give these chromium-packed foods a try? If you don’t like raw onions, you may also take a supplement.
