If you have or had irregular periods, you may be at greater risk for heart disease. That’s because women with abnormal periods, including women who have gone through menopause, produce less heart-protecting estrogen. Estrogen keeps arteries elastic and less disease prone. If you have irregular periods, speak to your doctor about a heart disease screening.
