Increased inflammation in the body associated with rheumatoid arthritis (RA) may also be the cause of increased risk of heart disease. Though researchers aren't sure of the exact cause, people with RA are twice as likely to have a heart attack in the decade after being diagnosed as those who don't have the condition. The good news is that the risk can be controlled through diet and exercise.
