4 facts about sugar that will surprise you
August’s Eating Well magazine has some excellent tips about nutrition. I was struck by the facts about sugar; here are a few:
- The average American eats 420 calories a day from added sugars.
- From 1970 until today, sugar intake has increased 12%.
- Natural sweeteners, such as honey or agave are not the answer because our bodies react the same to these additives – still empty calories that provide no nutrition.
- Over 35% of the added sugar in our diets comes from soda, sweetened drinks and sports drinks. This one is shocking!
Want to trim your sugar, eliminate sweetened drinks.
