Yoga Poses for Heart Health
There are several yoga poses that may be used in order to increase the health of your heart, and these poses are designed to help your blood circulate properly and to strengthen the heart muscle.
The Warrior Pose and the Triangle Pose are designed to promote cardiovascular exercise, and prompt you to breathe strategically and adequately. This can help you to increase your stamina, which gives you more energy to complete your daily activities and allow your heart to pump blood through the body quicker. This will help the body to replenish itself quicker, and can even help you to sleep better.
Additional information for these poses, such as the anatomical focus, therapeutic applications, benefits, contraindications and cautions, beginner's tip, variations, modifications and props, partnering and other information can be found on the pages for each pose. The yoga poses for improving heart health were suggested by Yoga Delights and the pose descriptions and additional information is provided by Yoga Journal.
Yoga is generally considered safe for people of all abilities, but there are some situations in which yoga might pose a risk. You may need to find an alternative to yoga or scale back your yoga poses.
See your health care provider before you begin yoga if you have any of the following conditions or situations, since complications can arise:
- Balance problems
- Uncontrolled high blood pressure
- Certain eye conditions, including glaucoma
- Severe osteoporosis
- Artificial joints
You may be able to practice yoga in these situations if you take certain precautions, such as avoiding certain poses or stretches. Regardless of your health status, start slowly and gently. If you develop symptoms or concerns, see your doctor to make sure you're getting benefit and not harm from yoga.
