I have to laugh when I read "stress buster" magazine articles that suggest relaxing over a glass of white wine or enjoying a lavender-scented bath. What real-life woman has the time?!?
Here's how I keep stress at bay in my working mom, always-on-the-go lifestyle. Anyone have other ideas to try?
1. My friend Debbie turned me on to this one: I play celebrity look-alike while waiting in line, riding public transportation, etc. It takes the tension of waiting right outta me!
2. I hit a lot of traffic on my morning commute and this used to send me through the roof. So now I tune in to the local traffic report as I'm pulling out of my driveway -- before I hit any roadways. It helps me avoid most of the backups, and even when I hit troublespots I feel less stressed because they aren't a surprise.
3. For me, there's no therapy quite like retail therapy but I never have the time (or money) to shop anymore. So, instead, I sign up for catalogs from all my favorite home decorating and clothing stores. I keep a big stack of them in my bathroom and enjoy flipping through whenever nature calls!
4. Okay, here's one more. I loaded my iPod with tunes from my 20s and teenage years. The music takes me back (for a just a few minutes!) to another time in my life and lets me escape my current-day stresses.
