Watch how you prepare classic Thanksgiving foods

Many traditional Thanksgiving foods are inherently good for you, including turkey, cranberries, and sweet potatoes; it’s the salt, butter, cream, or sugar that make the dishes unhealthy. Instead, look for smart substitutions, including low sodium chicken broth and nonfat evaporated milk in place of cream, and or cook up lower cal, lower fat recipes, such as a crustless pumpkin pie.

Learn the Food Label Lingo

The wording on food labels can be confusing if you don’t know what it means…and helpful if you do! Foods labeled “free” have the least amount of the nutrient.
