Avoid margarine and other trans fats


Many cities are now banning trans fats with impressive results. In New York City, the first city to ban the harmful fats most commonly used to cook French fries and baked goods, trans fat use was cut back from 50 to 2 percent.

Not All Margarines Are Created Equal


With so many margarine products available, it’s hard to know what to choose for your heart health. Choose margarine over butter because butter is loaded with fat. Choose tub or liquid margarine over the stick form. Look for “light” margarines that list water as the first ingredient and have no trans-fat. Spray margarine and butter substitutes can also be a good choice.
